Hearing Aid at the Best Price

Posted by admin on August 15th, 2010
Revolution is afoot in the hearing aid industry, the stale and stagnant hearing aid companies have some new competition such as Zounds who have launched its revolutionary approaches and technologies. They aim to help their customers hear better while not breaking their wallets.
We live in a world which is very much shaped by past revolutions, revolutions are bound to happen especially when something is inherently wrong in the first place. Our founding fathers and their fellow colonists began to move away from the European monarchist ideals by British brethren. Standing firm on a new amalgam of republican beliefs , simply and uniquely “American”.
Innovation is an ever-present revolutionary force, but business monarchies still exist, kings of industry fall at the feet of innovators with a better idea. Eastman Kodak dominated the consumer photography market and for much of this time, instamatics and disposable cameras were all the best ideas of their time and helped cement Kodak’s dominance, the monarchy. Becoming complacent, they ignored the trends of the very industry it created and ruled.
Hearing aid industry has been operating the same way for decades and is not paying attention to the cries of change by customers. Releasing sub-par products, which add to the products already offered, typically a repackaging of last year’s model with a new name and branded features aiming at deflecting attention to the over promised and under delivered elements such as noise and feedback cancellation. And what does the average customer pay for a high-end hearing aid? $2,500 to $4,000 per aid, but still don’t work well.

The Basics of Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 12th, 2010
Hearing loss is gradually aggravating problem in the whole of United States. According to American Hearing Aid Association, they had indicated that more than 10 percent of the American popular is suffering from hearing loss, a condition when sound is prevented from reaching the inner ear, resulting in blocking of the sound signals to the brain.
A proficient way of fighting the menace of hearing loss is to adapt to hearing aid. There are different kinds of hearing aid available, all of them vary in size and design, while the fundamental function remains the same. Several components constitute the making of a hearing aid, like microphone, circuit, receiver and battery.
The basic mechanism of all hearing aids are microphone that accepts up sound, the circuit converts the sound waves into an electrical signal and changes it based upon computer data given by the audiologist and to know how hearing aids work, it is essential to know the function of a circuit. It manipulates it with software that adjusts the sound waves in different perceptions. While a receiver converts the amplified sound back into an electrical signal to deliver the sound through the ear canal. These functions are all run by battery which charges energy particles supplying  the necessary power to the hearing aid components.
Knowing how hearing aids work, we have to know and understand the flow of sound through the hearing process, it travels in waveforms through the air, and they are gathered in by the ear and altered, before being sent to our brains to be interpreted.

Adjusting With Your Hearing Aid

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2010
1) Choosing the right hearing aid- buying hearing aids in the UK then you have two options, you can either have one from the NHS or choose to go private,it does tend to have a longer waiting list than private companies and there are often fewer devices on offer. Choosing to use a private company for your hearing aids in the UK will be quicker, your hearing device fitted by an audiologist. Private hearing specialists usually have a huge range of different devices for you to choose from .
2) Getting used to your new hearing aid- becoming accustomed to a lower level of hearing, it can sometimes be a shock to be able to hear noises again. A common surprise is the sound of your own voice and hearing yourself speak again making you feel self conscious at first but after a few days you should get used to the different tones and noise levels of your own and other voices. Another aspect of this the ‘occlusion effect’ where you have the sensation of your voice booming or echoing in your head.
3) Adjusting to new noises- on public transport, shopping centres and even in busy homes, hearing above the noise can be difficult, especially if you’re getting used to a new hearing aid. Having a conversation, try to limit the amount of background noise by switching off radios, closing windows or moving to a quieter area where you can’t control the surrounding noises such as in restaurants. Practice talking with friends and family in loud surroundings so you can get used to blocking out the outside noises.

Affordable Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 10th, 2010
It is possible to find affordable hearing aids, it is a fact that some models are way beyond what some can afford. There are quality hearing aids that will allow you to hear clearly minus busting your checkbook. It just a matter of knowing where to look and what to look for in a good but affordable hearing aid.
Choosing the Best for You- technology in the production of hearing aids has made it possible to have a wide variety to choose from, digital hearing aids are, of course, the best ones. You can also choose from different types like behind the ear or in the canal (ITC) hearing aids. Some models suppress echo and bring background noise to a minimum level, giving you the next best thing to the real thing.
Some Likely Candidates- some popular affordable hearing aids are the Digi Ear D1, Digi Ear D2 and Digi Ear DS. These hearing aids come with rotating nozzles to fit in both left and right ear specially designed to fit into the ear canal.
Digi Ear D1-  has outstanding features considering its price, 2-channel aid that has an adjustable on/off volume control and a universal fit.
Digi Ear D2-  comes with the features of D1, but has intuitive feedback reduction and a quiet speech amplifier.
Digi Ear DS-  functions just like Digi Ear D2 but it comes with echo cancellation capability.
There are other affordable hearing aids in the market today like the Sound Device Series for those looking for mild to moderate levels of amplification.

Hearing Aid Talk

Posted by admin on August 9th, 2010
Hearing aid, an instrument that amplifies sound waves to be processed by the components of our hearing system. A natural loss of hearing occurs with the aging process, some people are born with defective or missing components and that results in the inability to hear anything at all. This type of hearing loss will not be improved through the use of typical hearing aids.
The onset of hearing loss is slow and gradual, as a result of that slow process and gradual degradation of hearing, some people may not even realize the fact that the hearing abilities are diminished. It onlt happens until a very significant loss has occurred. Many are not even aware of the fact that they could benefit from the assistance of a hearing aid.
Some hearing loss are short term resulting from exposure to loud noises or due to something blocking the ear canal which can be cleared and minor damage often repairs without assistance that does not indicate the the need for a hearing aid. Some forms of damage caused by periods of exposure to excessive noise levels will mend itself.
The options for hearing aids actually vary considerably, you will find lower cost hearing aids that have been commonly available for many years. These are not tuned for specific frequencies and amplify all sound, the specific frequency tuning capability has allowed a much more acceptable alternative. Other features include various physical applications that permit mounting behind the ear, completely inside the ear canal or between these two styles.

Phone and Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 8th, 2010
For those of you that wear a hearing aid, there can be a problem dealing with phones. An option is to shop for a cell phone does not interfere with your hearing aid, this can be very time consuming as different phones have different ratings, as to how they will work with your hearing aid.
Thanks to technology, the new product works in unison with both your digital hearing aid and your cell phone. It’s surprising that a product like this has not existed before, which makes a lot of sense, is they moved the microphone from the cell phone to the digital hearing aid. Voice is picked up by the microphone in the hearing aid and then transmitted back through the cell phone, using this process, designers have been able to completely eliminate the dreaded buzzing feedback that typically happens when using them at the same time.
Wondering if you can afford such a helpful device, the initial cost of the cell phone hearing aids is about $300 dollars, a fair price, but users should be on the look out for the prices to come down even further as other companies put similar products. This cell phone hearing aids are not perfect though, it does have some compatibility issues. The main problem right now is that the technology will only work with the type of hearing aids that are worn behind the ear, if you have a hearing aid that fits in the inside of your ear then you are out of luck for the time being.

Caring Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 5th, 2010
1. Cleaning Behind-The-Ear Hearing Aids- sufficiently big enough to hold in your hand while you’re cleaning them, consisting of an ear mold and tubing. Dirt can accumulate behind the ear especially if you’re wearing something over there, when you take off the hearing aid at night, wipe it off with a dry cloth and examine it carefully to find any dried spots or earwax. They can be washed occasionally using soap and water. Make sure not to soak them for too long and dry them completely before putting them back on.
2. Cleaning In-The-Ear Hearing Aids- almost the same as the procedure for cleaning other hearing aids, they are more sensitive and smaller than other aids, so you need to take extra care while cleaning them. You should inspect them daily after taking off at night to look for any dried earwax on them, especially on the area that goes directly into the canal, use a soft cloth to clean it. If there is earwax found on any of the parts, sometimes it can be quite stubborn.
3. Cleaning Products- hearing aids can also be taken care of by cleaning your ears and preventing any earwax accumulating in the first place. There are many ear cleaning products available out there, don’t use dry cotton buds, try some wipes.Other cleaning products are dri-aid, a tool to keep your ears dry and so in theory they shouldn’t have as much wax. Spray tools work like cleaning wipes in a way that ensures germ control for longer periods of time.

A Look at Delta Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 4th, 2010
High frequency hearing loss can result from overexposure to loud noise or music. Sufferers of high frequency hearing loss need help understanding conversations in noisy environments, those with broadband hearing loss, on the other hand, need help across the entire auditory spectrum with both high and low pitched sounds.
Oticon, Inc, is the manufacturer of Delta hearing aids have a revolutionary triangular design, with cutting edge digital technology specifically aimed at the Baby-Boomer-and-younger generations who are experiencing hearing impairment in the mild to moderate range.
The brushed-metal Delta hearing aids come in an astonishing seventeen colors. They have tiny receivers attached to transparent wires because the receivers are inserted into the Delta Hearing aid user’s ear canals. They have made possible new designs previously unavailable to the hearing-impaired. It has both the cosmetic appeal of inner ear hearing enhancement and the technological capabilities of behind-the-ear hearing aids.
Thank to Oticon with their digital technology, Delta hearing aids allow their users to adjust them so that they only amplify the sounds which the users have difficulty hearing. Those one-in-two people who suffer from high frequency hearing loss can amplify the high-register sounds resulting to comfort in hearing them. Users can hear sounds without having to magnify the bass frequencies to an unbearable level.
Delta hearing aids are available in a Crayola-box range of colors from Sunset Orange to Green Chameleon. The Mother-of-Pearl for the more formal set, are turning traditionally hearing aids into fashion accessories.

Waterproof Hearing Aids

Posted by admin on August 3rd, 2010
Water cause huge problems for the users of hearing aids. If the air is too humid then excessive earwax can build up on the hearing aid. Even if a tiny amount of water gets inside the casing it can damage the sensitive electronic components, a very costly repair. Unfortunately there is no waterproof hearing aids, because sound actually has to enter the device somehow, if it was sealed the sound would be unable to enter.
Manufacturers are trying to produce hearing aids that are more water resistant, two large producers of hearing aids Rion and Eurion offer water resistant hearing aids. Rion has a number of different water resistant hearing aids. When you are working outside you will sweat quite a lot, it’s quite easy for this moisture to make its way into your hearing aid. Water resistant hearing aids are therefore perfect for users that work outside. Many fire-fighters would use water resistant aids for this reason alone.
You can do some things to avoid problems caused by moisture:
-Use some very thin plastic or tissue to wrap them in, this will absorb the sweat. Just remember not to use too much plastic or tissue as then you may be unable to hear!
-Cut your hair. Long hair makes it much easier for sweat to enter your ears.
-Take a plastic bag with you, some form of food bag. Put the hearing aid inside the bag when you are going to get sweaty, also when you think you might be exposed to water.

Caring For Your Hearing Aid

Posted by admin on August 2nd, 2010
Hearing aids are expensive with very sensitive circuitry that should be taken great care of. Cleaning your hearing aid on a regular basis ensure that it last as long. A dirty hearing aid can also cause ear infections, another good reason to clean it properly!
The process of cleaning a hearing aid varies from type to type. Different types of hearing aids have different structures and different degrees of delicacy. Consider certain precautions before attempting to clean your hearing aid. Make sure your hands are washed and dried. It is advised that you use a soft, cotton cloth to clean the entire device, you can use cleaners, avoid going overboard.
