Busting Hearing Aid Myths
General December 10th, 2009Hearing aids has been introduced in our society for centuries but there are still persons who really do not understand the purpose and usage of a hearing aid. Let us discuss the common myths regarding hearing aids and correct them.
Myth #1: Hearing aids restore the normal hearing of a person. Hearing aids are devices use to enhance the sound waves receive by the person who has hearing loss to amplify sounds in order for them to have better listening skills and can respond to communication properly. Remember that no hearing aids have the capacity to restore normal hearing.
Myth #2: Hearing aids can destroy our residual hearing. Hearing aids are prescribed and chosen by their doctor according to the severity of one’s condition. This myth can happen in rare situations. Hearing aids should be worn properly and should fit inside the ears to achieve the desired benefits they want.
Myth #3: Smaller hearing aids can provide better technology. Hearing aids serve its purpose properly no matter what type and sizes. Both large and small hearing aids helps person with hearing loss.
Myth #4: Hearing aids can resolve all hearing difficulties of individuals when it comes to communication problems. This can never happen for the fact that hearing aids only assist person’s sound capacity but then sometimes they still experience problems such as noisy environments that make them hear poor sounds thus prohibiting them to communicate effectively at times.
Myth #5: Only elderly persons can use hearing aids. Elders are the number one consumer of hearing aids technology but that does not mean that young adults and children cannot use it. Hearing aids comes in different types that can be available in different ages.
