Blast from the Past: The Timelines of the Hearing Aid
General December 2nd, 2009
Hearing aids have certainly come a long way. From the old way of hearing aid such as the ear trumpets that was used two hundred years ago by our forefathers, to the newest state of the art designs and features by modern hearing aids. As we all know that the hearing aid device has been developed according to their design and purpose in today’s hearing industry.
As years have gone by, and it seems like that these hearing aids have revolutionized to catch up with technology’s fast paced speed. Hearing aid technology has started to change rapidly,. To note, there are two important milestones in the history of hearing aids–the advent of electricity and the telephone, which was actually a machine that could have electronically amplify sound via a carbon microphone in combination with the power of a battery.
From the old ear trumpets, to the Modern hearing aid technology that still utilizes or uses the concept of a receiver, a telephone component that will be described by the tiny speaker inside the person’s hearing aid. More and more technology has been found to enhance the quality every persons hearing needs; with this newly discovered technology it has major changes in the history of hearing aids.
These new types of hearing aid technology has led to a decrease in the hearing aid’s size and the miniaturization of batteries. As we all know that previous batteries were large, heavy, and but these could not hold a long charge making them the impractical for hearing aid use, and these Battery pack hearing aid needs to be worn on the hearing-impaired person’s body.
And by the year 1990, other great features for a hearing aid have been discovered. In this time more advancement in its features has been added and this is the beginning of the digital hearing aid era. The Digital hearing aids has allowed every hearing impaired person for a more precise shaping of the sound into their ear. With its digital circuitry, the sound that they receive can be amplified or dampened as needed.
Also it took advantage of the compression technology, which eliminated the annoying side effect that had plagued all users of these hearing aids throughout its history, the history of hearing aids–the distortion of very loud sounds.
As of this time, the future or the new generation of hearing aid has even made better. The Transducers are getting smaller, and the circuitry is shrinking rapidly as well. This new breed of hearing aids is increasingly more powerful that the hearing aids that was produced before. Giving the user the control of their own hearing again, as they become even more involved with the fitting and adjusting of their hearing aids. This will give them the feel of having a new ear instead of having a device.
