Five Tips for Hearing Aid Battery Maintenance

Posted by admin on December 11th, 2009

The most important thing in your hearing aid is the battery since it is the life of your hearing aid. That is why you need to make sure that you maintain your hearing aid battery properly. There are a few things that you should know to ensure that your battery will last as long as possible. Here are a few tips to maintaining your hearing aid battery.

  1. Tabs – If you are using a zinc-air hearing aid battery, then you should need to leave the tab on even if you’re not using it. These types of batteries are activated by the time you pull the tab off and it is exposed to air. That is why you need to leave the tab on your hearing aid when the hearing aid battery is not being used.
  2. Storage – You should make sure that you store your hearing aid battery at a room temperature always.  The battery should never be stored in hot areas such as the dashboard in your car.
  3. Compartment – You should take your hearing aid battery out at night when you are not using it. Because during this time, you can ventilate the battery compartment of your hearing aid. This will also prevent moisture from getting into the battery compartment and causing damage.
  4. Drying – A lot of people are putting their hearing aid in a dryer overnight. But you should make sure that you have to take your battery out before you place the device in the dryer, because this will dry up the electrolytes and it will considerably shorten its lifespan.
  5. Tester – You should invest in a battery tester, because you it will allow you to know if how much power the hearing aid battery has left so that it won‘t cut out on you in an important time.

Hearing Aid Innovation: The Blue Tooth Hearing Aid

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2009

We have witnessed the evolution of different hearing aids through a short period of time, and we have seen huge changes in the lives of the people. Today another innovation has come out to introduce another hearing aid that will surely amaze persons with hearing loss problems. Hearing aids have been helpful ever since, but only conventional ones are available.

The blue tooth hearing aid is the latest innovation that Blue tooth technology has introduced.  Blue tooth technology works by exchanging data over short distances with open wireless protocols. Combining the Blue tooth technology and the hearing aid that amplifies the sound gives welcome to the Blue tooth hearing aids.

Perks of the Blue tooth hearing aids include better compatibility with Blue tooth hands free devices, communication between two hearing aids are made possible that lead to the best possible audibility, enhancement of listening for hearing aid user, and it it makes the ring of the cell phone be heard directly through these hearing aid thus making you start and end the conversation by pressing only one button and can only consume less power.

In order for the Blue tooth technology to work for our hearing aid, it should be paired with a Telecoil or Direct Audio input. Telecoils are considered to be the small magnets that receive signals from mobile phones and other devices while the direct audio input is a feature that allows a connection to different radio stations.

Getting this latest innovation will however cost much higher than regualr hearing aids. Also, these are not widely available yet; but hopefully, they can be, soon.

Progammable vs. Digital: Which Hearing Aid is Better?

Posted by admin on December 8th, 2009

Do you have hearing loss? Are you still searching for the right hearing aid that can serve you properly? Hearing aid technology is evolving and still continues to produce alternatives for every individual that might suit their demands. Analog and digital hearing aids are the two most common type of hearing aid. Although both of them consist of the same components such as the microphone that gathers the sound waves, an amplifier that serves to increase the strength of an electrical signal and the last one would be the receiver that converts the electrical impulses that the amplifier increases.

Analog and digital are both hearing aids and actually serve one purpose and that is to help persons with hearing loss improve their hearing abilities. They may look similar but comes in different sizes, designs and colors. Thier difference lies in the benefits the user can get.

Programmable analog hearing aid has been introduced as an advance version of the analog hearing aid that is conventional. With the latest version, programs can be saved thus needs only to be switched on when situation calls. On the other hand, digital hearing aids are capable of amplifying the softest sounds and decreasing the noise in the background or any unwanted voices and sometimes include an automatic volume control.

Digital hearing aid can be very expensive compare to the programmable analog hearing aids but is way better compare to the latter. Price is the only major advantage of digital hearing aids but can serve more features to enhance one’s hearing.

Choosing the Phone to Fit Your Hearing Needs

Posted by admin on December 8th, 2009

When having hearing loss problems, we consult our doctor then submit ourselves to different laboratory and hearing tests that can actually diagnose our problems. When diagnosed to have hearing loss, hearing aids are suggested by our doctors, then we both select the perfect one for us. It should be perfect for our hearing conditions and the one that can provide comfort to us.

We do not only choose the right hearing aids for us, but also have to choose the right phone that can coincide with our hearing aids to avoid the any interference.

In finding the compatible phones for persons with hearing loss, three things are need to be considered and these are the T-rating which refers to the Telecoil, M-rating that refers to microphone and lastly the RF-rating that refers to radio frequency.  A T4 and M3 or M4 rating cell phones are considered to be compatible with persons who have hearing loss. These are the cell phones that reduce the sound interference to the maximum level while utilizing the earphones.

Radio frequency is used for the transmission and reception of the sounds. However, having these kinds of cell phones can never be the perfect solution for it can never control the magnetic reference brought about by the cell phone battery all the time.
It is advisable to test the cell phones in different locations if you are wearing hearing aids. You may have the compatible one but still has rooms for radio frequency interference when stopped at a location with bad network coverage. Be wise enough in picking the right phone for you.

Posted by admin on December 2nd, 2009

Hearing aids have certainly come a long way. From the old way of hearing aid such as the ear trumpets that was used two hundred years ago by our forefathers, to the newest state of the art designs and features by modern hearing aids. As we all know that the hearing aid device has been developed according to their design and purpose in today’s hearing industry.

As years have gone by, and it seems like that these hearing aids have revolutionized to catch up with technology’s fast paced speed. Hearing aid technology has started to change rapidly,. To note, there are two important milestones in the history of hearing aids–the advent of electricity and the telephone, which was actually a machine that could have electronically amplify sound via a carbon microphone in combination with the power of a battery.

From the old ear trumpets, to the Modern hearing aid technology that still utilizes or uses the concept of a receiver, a telephone component that will be described by the tiny speaker inside the person’s hearing aid. More and more technology has been found to enhance the quality every persons hearing needs; with this newly discovered technology it has major changes in the history of hearing aids.

These new types of hearing aid technology has led to a decrease in the hearing aid’s size and the miniaturization of batteries. As we all know that previous batteries were large, heavy, and but these could not hold a long charge making them the impractical for hearing aid use, and these Battery pack hearing aid needs to be worn on the hearing-impaired person’s body.

And by the year 1990, other great features for a hearing aid have been discovered. In this time more advancement in its features has been added and this is the beginning of the digital hearing aid era. The Digital hearing aids has allowed every hearing impaired person for a more precise shaping of the sound into their ear. With its digital circuitry, the sound that they receive can be amplified or dampened as needed.

Also it took advantage of the compression technology, which eliminated the annoying side effect that had plagued all users of these hearing aids throughout its history, the history of hearing aids–the distortion of very loud sounds.

As of this time, the future or the new generation of hearing aid has even made better. The Transducers are getting smaller, and the circuitry is shrinking rapidly as well. This new breed of hearing aids is increasingly more powerful that the hearing aids that was produced before. Giving the user the control of their own hearing again, as they become even more involved with the fitting and adjusting of their hearing aids. This will give them the feel of having a new ear instead of having a device.
